Plants
labelled - September 2005
Guests can now discover the fascinating Waterberg flora
on their own. Windhoek hobby botanist Luise Hoffmann has
identified some of the characteristic indigenous plants
around the lodge and along the hiking trails. Trees and
shrubs are numbered according to the 'Pocket List of Southern
African Indigenous Trees'. With the help of our leaflet
it is easy to identify the labelled plants – such
as the Karree (willow), the Sandpaper raisin or the Kudu
bush.
Because of its sharp tip, the Sansevieria is also called 'Mother-in-law's Tongue' in the vernacular.
Camping on red Sand - July 2005
After three months of building we opened the 'Waterberg
Plateau Camping Site’ in one of our farm’s
sheltered side valleys in mid-July. Each of the five large,
shaded sites has running water and private barbeque facilities.
There are communal bathrooms, a swimming pool with spring
water and a thatched bar which also sells barbeque meat
and fire wood. Camping guests are welcome to book our
guided tours to the Waterberg plateau.
